Red Squirrel Infestation! Help!?

If anything knows much about red squirrels they know they can be nasty and very territorial. When we purchased our home almost four years ago we noticed there wasn't any grey squirrels in the yard, only red. That winter they found a way to get up to our finished third floor and do some damage. This year they have multiplied and are taking over our 3 acre yard! If we go under certain trees they will either start yelling at us, hissing, throw things at us or come down after us. They're not afraid of our dogs (we have a bulldog and a pit who could care less of them). I'm afraid of them eventually attacking one of the pets or kids. Traps are completely out of the question. The trees in our yard are hundreds of years old and they are nested up in the trees about a good hundred feet or so where no ladders can get close to. Also there are too many to trap! As far as guns, not sure which type of gun/ammo to use. Any ideas would be appreciated!Red Squirrel Infestation! Help!?
.20 or .22 caliber air rifle should do the trick its quite so the neighbors do get bothered by any gun fire, just remember to secure it away from the kids .Red Squirrel Infestation! Help!?
De con rat poison. Buy the little boxes of pellets and put some in your attic and around your yard. In one week, you will see a dramatic shortage of squirrels.
Place mothballs in your house where the squirrels come in. I wouldn't worry about squirrels in the yard too much.
