How many pumps does it take to kill a small animal with a Red Ryder BB gun? Such as bird and squirrel.?

Daisy's 'Red Ryder' bb guns are only spring piston operated guns. They are NOT pneumatic rifles that can be 'pumped-up' as a pellet rifle is operated.

Cycling the action lever once will re-c0ck the mechanism. Working the lever any further repetitions accomplishes nothing except wearing the pivot joint.

I own two Red Ryders myself, one antique I inherited from my father %26amp; Grandfather, and a reproduction from the 90's, so I know for sure. The antique will bust glass all day long, where bb's from the repro only bounce off. As with so many other things, the antique Red Ryder is far superior overall to the modern 'repro'. . . .How many pumps does it take to kill a small animal with a Red Ryder BB gun? The Red Rider uses a spring piston to generate the compressed air to fire BBs. Cocking it more than once isn't going to improve the speed or power levels.

As for killing squirrels and birds with a Red Rider... Its not powerful enough. You need an impact energy of 3 ft-lbs of energy to kill a squirrel and most birds. The Red Rider only generates 1.36 ft-lbs of energy at the muzzle (a 5 grain BB moving at 350 fps (or so Daisy claims)). That's not enough to humanely kill squirrels or birds at any distance. Its really not even enough to kill rats and mice. If you want to use an inexpensive air-gun to hunt squirrels and birds, you should look into a gun like the Crosman 2100, the Daisy 880, the Crosman 660, or the Crosman 660.How many pumps does it take to kill a small animal with a Red Ryder BB gun? Below is a link to a picture of a Red-Ryder, where you can see that it is a very cheap, single cock type of gun.

It is rated at 350 fps. You could easily kill sparrows with it, but unless they are taking over bluebird or purple martin houses, there's no reason to do that. You won't kill a squirrel with it, due to their thick skin, but you could get lucky and take a rabbit if you use about half of the 650 shots the thing holds : - )
The red ryder is only capable of being c o c k e d once. It's not a pump up pellet rifle.

The red ryder is NOT intended for any small game hunting, it's a target practice gun only. It would not only be inhumane, but unethical to even attempt to small game hunt with a red ryder.
A red ryder is a single cock gun and I wouldn't think it is capable of killing a squirrel. You should not be killing birds either... get real.
i was shot with a red ryder its pathetic it bounces right of get a real pump airgun not a lever action
the only thing you are going to kill with a red ryder is bugs
Here is a old trick I used when I was a kid. Clean all the old oil out of your BB gun and put in break fluid where you would put the oil. The break fluid does not last as long as oil but it makes it have more power.
you know, it's not a good idea to kill animals anyways...

whats the point of killing a small animal??
